Push to make union and labor rights a reality in RI schools!

So recently I contacted my State Representative Tina Spears about making the equivalent of what California recently passed Bill AB-800. The bill would essentially make changes to the education code to teach issues including but not limited to

(A) Prohibitions against misclassification of employees as independent contractors.

(1) Local, state, and federal laws regarding each of the following issues:

(B) Child labor.

(C) Wage and hour protections.

(D) Worker safety.

(E) Workersโ€™ compensation.

(F) Unemployment insurance.

(G) Paid Sick Leave, Paid Family Leave, State Disability Insurance, and the California Family Rights Act.

(H) The right to organize a union in the workplace.

(I) Prohibitions against retaliation by employers when workers exercise these or any other rights guaranteed by law.

These are just some of the issues that would be included in this Rhode Island bill, obviously being tweaked to more align with Rhode Island programs. She said she would contact a couple of union leaders, and that she would 100% be happy to sponsor such a bill! If this succeeds, I will become a lot more active in Rhode Island and hopefully in the future national politics! She said after she drafts the bill sheโ€™ll send me a copy, where I will post a copy of the draft and also a public link to said bill when itโ€™s made public.
