A CVS Employee’s Tale: Navigating Challenges and Pursuing Justice
In a recent video, I shared my heartfelt journey as an employee at CVS, offering a glimpse into the hardships I faced and the unwavering determination I held to address them.

  1. The Beginning of My Story: State Investigation and Unpaid Overtime
My story commences with a state investigation into the lack of time-and-a-half pay for Sunday work, which I believe I was rightfully entitled to. This investigation set the stage for a series of events, including a call to a political show that played a pivotal role in my journey.
    1.1 The Investigation Unfolds
The state investigation was the first glimmer of hope. It confirmed what I had suspected for a while – that I wasn’t receiving the overtime pay I thought I was entitled to for working on Sundays. On October 13th 2022, the investigation officially was opened. I was asked if I wished to remain anonymous, I said yes.
1.2 Taking a Stand: The Political Show Call
In the midst of this, I decided to take a stand. I called into a political show, the David Pakman Show determined to shed light on the issue. Little did I know that this decision would change the course of my journey.
  2. Taking a Stand: Reporting Policy Conflicts to the New York Department of Labor
My call to the David Pakman Show caught the attention of my district manager, who was dispatched to discuss about their “social media policy” and about how I’m “Representing the company” you know the usual fear tactics bosses use. I had genuine concerns about the outdated policy and expressed my intention to contact the New York Department of Labor yet I was almost terminated for it. This was right on New Years Day in January.
    2.1 Speaking Up for Change
Speaking up about the outdated sick time policy wasn’t easy, but it was necessary. I knew that if I didn’t, nothing would change. So, I voiced my concerns and took a step towards making the workplace better for all employees even though doing so almost got me fired.
  3. A Call for Safety: Addressing Workplace Hazards
On February 15th 2023, I raised a complaint with OSHA regarding the persistent issue of mold and dust in the workplace’s air vents. I voiced my concerns about potential health risks, especially for customer and employees with breathing problems such as asthma. Thankfully, the matter was resolved by February 20th.
    3.1 Health and Safety Matter
Your health and safety should always come first. I refused to compromise on this, and I encourage others to do the same. Don’t hesitate to report workplace hazards; it’s your right. OSHA doesn’t mess around with retaliation.
  4. Conversations and Clarifications: Discord Messages and HR Call
I chose to share my decision to contact OSHA, a decision that likely captured HR’s attention. This led to a lengthy HR call where we discussed various claims and sought clarifications even though that didn’t do much in the end.
    4.1 Open Dialogue
Communication is key. During this HR call, we had a chance to clarify misunderstandings and address issues. It’s a reminder that open and honest communication can sometimes resolve problems. Sadly that was not the case here. They likely were already going to fire me.
  5. Unexpected Obstacles: Messages from a Co-worker Discord Troll
Around two weeks later on March 13th, I received messages from a Discord troll with bad intentions who shockingly admitted to playing a role in my eventual termination. This individual went to extreme lengths, even doxxing me, and shared certain information with CVS that contributed to my termination at least if I’m to believe them.
    5.1 Battling Online Harassment
Online trolls and harassers can be relentless. My experience taught me the importance of cybersecurity and being vigilant about protecting your personal information.
  6. The Final Chapter: Termination and Unresolved Concerns
On March 15th, 2023, I faced the unfortunate reality of termination. During the termination call, despite the challenges, I chose not to fight back against the allegations like I perhaps should have.
    6.1 Facing Adversity
Sometimes, life throws challenges our way. It’s not about how hard we hit back but how we navigate through the storm. I hope my experience encourages others to stand up for what’s right.
  7. A Glimmer of Hope: Pursuing Overtime Pay Post-Termination
Despite the challenges, I persevered in my pursuit of justice by claiming the overtime pay I rightfully deserved for the Sundays I had worked. The Department of Labor joined my quest, and I received emails regarding the ongoing investigation.
    7.1 Never Give Up
No matter how tough the road ahead may seem, remember that justice is worth fighting for. My journey proves that persistence can pay off.
  8. Navigating Legal Complexities: Pharmacy Worker Exemptions
My journey also unveiled legal complexities, including exemptions for pharmacy workers under Rhode Island 25-3, pertaining to time-and-a-half pay for Sundays.
    8.1 Understanding the Law
Understanding employment laws and regulations can be challenging. Seek legal counsel if needed, and always be aware of your rights as an employee.
  9. A New Chapter: Pursuing Media Attention
In a recent development, I secured a news interview with WPRI, shedding light on my journey. I am eagerly awaiting its release and actively contacting other news outlets to further amplify the importance of workplace safety, fair employment practices, and open communication between employees and employers.
    9.1 Spreading the Message
My story doesn’t end here. I believe in the power of storytelling to bring about change. By sharing my experiences, I hope to inspire others to speak up and demand fair treatment in the workplace.

  10. Conclusion
My journey as a CVS employee has been filled with ups and downs, but it has also been a testament to the strength of the human spirit. Through adversity and challenges, I learned the importance of standing up for what’s right, even in the face of daunting obstacles. My story is a reminder that justice and fairness are worth pursuing, no matter how difficult the path may be.
